Gwyneth Jones

Gwyneth Jones raises sheep with her husband Andrew, in Noel Shore, Nova Scotia. Since buying an old table-top spinning wheel 25 years ago, she has had an interest in wool, and more recently Gwyneth has taken great interest in all aspects of felt making. This craft is both ancient (one of the oldest textile methods) and modern (with the introduction of felting needles), and it gives great scope for exploring the characteristics of fleece and processed fibre. Gwyneth dyes her own wool, with both natural and synthetic dyes, and is interested in the range and subtle variation of shades that can be produced. Says Gwyneth about her craft: “I have drawn inspiration from the natural world, especially the fauna and flora of beautiful Atlantic Canada, as well as my professional background as a biologist, to create fleece paintings and wool sculpturs that use both ancient and modern techniques, alone or in combination, for working with wool from our flock.”
