Linda Jones

Linda L. Jones has designed, created and taught beadwork for 35 years. Her work has appeared in Bead & Button Magazine and in their annual publication, Creative Beading, Volume 4. She has been invited to show work in exhibitions such as: “Fashion Forward: 11 Nova Scotia Designers” – Mary Black Gallery “NSCAD Wearable Art Show” (2008) and “High Fibre Café” – The Moorings Gallery Her work has been carried in fine craft galleries in Ontario, Nova Scotia and Quebec since 1985. She lives and works in Halifax, Nova Scotia, specializing in off-loom bead weaving techniques and bead embroidery. Pattern and colour are her passions and she is inspired by fine art, textile design, ceramics, lamp work, and the natural world. She is happily obsessive about her work and often works free-form, beading herself into corners and experiencing happy accidents that lead pieces in unexpected directions. She is currently working on a book of beadwork patterns. She feels that “wearable art” must, in fact, be wearable and durable as well as artistically pleasing. She hopes her pieces will be worn many times and passed down to daughters and granddaughters and strives for heirloom quality. For The Moorings Gallery’s “Quest for Colour” exhibition, she chose as her theme, the word “Vivid.” Working with contrasts and saturated colour, she created a series she hopes resonates with the joy and exuberance she felt when creating them.
