Candice Prior

Originally from New York City, her first profession was dance. All through her dancing years she taught herself beadwork, embroidery, and off-loom techniques to keep busy in the down times. When she moved to Halifax in 2001 from Toronto, she decided to further her knowledge of jewellery crafts and took several courses at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and at the Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design. She also took a course in Toronto to be certified in teaching techniques in the use of art clay silver (a material of powdered silver and an organic slurry that can be molded like clay but when fired becomes a silver object). Presently she teaches beadwork techniques and art clay silver classes at the Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design. She is a juried member of the Nova Scotia Designer Craft Council and her work has displayed in many art exhibitions in Nova Scotia and elsewhere. Candice makes all of the components of her jewellery –the beads, the clasps, the earring wires and what amazing ways she finds to put everything together! Candice ensures everyone that earrings do not need to match!

Says Elissa Barnard, Halifax Chronicle Herald, 11/02/2006:

Candice Prior’s enthusiasm for jewellery is contagious and she wants everyone to catch it.
