August 1st from 2:00pm – 4:00pm, Pamela Kinsman, Glass Artist

Are you passionate for glass?  Glass is an ancient art form that amazes us even today. While it is classical, it is also contemporary. Artists over time created artwork that was inspired by glass: Klimt, Monet, Tiffany.

Many of our gallery artists at The Moorings adore glass and the opportunity it provides for them to create special art pieces. Glass art can take many forms.  The glass may be crystal clear, coloured or opaque. Glass may comprise all of a piece or only be the predominant component. Glass can be the medium or it can be depicted on a canvas in two-dimensional form. Glass as a medium is well-suited to create works of art because of its aesthetic appearance, durability and the wide variety of techniques that can be used to create the art. In this exhibit you will find:

  • three-dimensional pieces of glass art
  • mixed media glass art
  • painted glass art
  • stained glass art
  • glass jewellery
  • vases, plates and bowls
  • hearts, goblets and paperweights
  • fused glass
  • blown glass
  • carved and etched glass
  • glass beads
  • visual art depicting glass vessels

In the exhibit, Glass Menagerie, you will find exceptional glass creations. Some of the work will be functional while other pieces will be appreciated only for their aesthetic quality. Each piece is unique. Some will be limited editions.  All items are designed and created by the artists and are made in Atlantic Canada.

A special event during this exhibit will be a talk by Master Craftsman Jack Tebay and Customer Experience Specialist Katie Ross from Nova Scotian Crystal who will help you understand more about glass art. Nova Scotian Crystal is the only company making crystal in Canada. They will show you how crystal is made through demonstrations and a short video and explain the difference between crystal and glass and talk about the different kinds of glass. You will also be given tips on how to care for your fine glass treasures. This presentation will take place July 31st from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.  Please contact the gallery for more details.

Pamela Kinsman will also be at the gallery to talk about her work and give a demonstration on Sunday, August 1st from 2:00pm – 4:00pm. Pamela will be showing hand-painted art glass in this exhibit. Each piece is individually painted reminiscent in concept to antique painted glass.  Once painted each piece is heat set for permanency in a low temperature firing and then the designs are accented with crystal and/or silk tassels.  Completely functional, these pieces are hand washable.

This exhibit opens at 10:30 am, July 31st. Artwork can be viewed on The Moorings website: www.mooringsgallery.com at that time.  Please come and join us for tea, lemonade and cookies, and to meet some of the artists and to learn more about glass art.

For more information about the show please contact the gallery by phone 902-624-6208 or e-mail info@mooringsgallery.com. The gallery is open daily until Christmas.
