Fiddling & Flowers

August 6-25, 2011

Opening Reception Saturday August 6, 2011, from 2-4pm

Entertainment will be provided by True Capers, our young troupe of Maritime fiddlers. The artists will be on hand to talk about their work as well, Anna and Alexandrya will be demonstrating some of their techniques.

Alexandrya Eaton has been painting and widely exhibiting her artwork since receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Mount Allison University in 1991. Her Artist statement says: “My painting is an emotional response to colour. Drawing from imaginative sources and building upon layers of paint, it is through colour that I am able to define pictorial space. Through this process, the study of colour allows me to juxtapose bold vibrant hues and solid planes to saturate the image, which finally emerges as a celebration of colour and form. I paint for the immediate sense of joy it brings to me, and for the hope of joy it brings to others. I want to overwhelm the viewer with life and colour.”

Anna Robaczewski blends her passion for luscious, vibrant colour with her European sensibility that beautiful can also be useful. The result is finely crafted items that tickle our sense of whimsy, please our eyes and decorate our lives. Her art is beautiful and practical, designed to be worn and adorn. Anna is a graduate of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Art Education and Visual Communication Design. She has taught art as well as explored her love of the visual arts through graphic design, photography, paint and fibre.

Marie Valverde studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and at Concordia University. Often referred to by her patrons as the Frida Kahlo of Nova Scotia, Valverde is a visual artist who draws inspiration from her natural environment as well as her Spanish heritage. People figure prominently in her original oil paintings as do endangered species and organic vegetative motifs.  In the work in this exhibit she combines portraiture with floral motifs. Says Valverde about her work, "Painting begins when I escape. It is when I am in these meditative moments that my work evolves on it's own journey."
