Nicole
Anderson
Nicole Anderson was born in the
quiet maritime province of New Brunswick. She was introduced to the
visual arts at a very young age and was instantly fascinated by her
desire to create. In high school, Nicole began to refine her skills
as an artist and was given the Artist of the Year award for her
graduating class as well as the Sanford Grumbacher scholarship
through the Canadian Society for Education through Art. Nicole went
on to pursue an undergraduate degree at the Nova Scotia College of
Art and Design where she discovered her passion for jewelry and the
art of manipulating precious metals.
Nicole has since been active as a
jewelry student at the college and in her community. She has managed
the studio's Student Silver Store and participated in the annual
NSCAD Jewelry Show and Sale.
Nicole is scheduled to graduate in
April 2008 with a BFA in Jewelry Design and Metal Smithing. Her most
current work is focused on her attraction to the linear qualities of
wire forms. Her recent designs explore the use of wire structures
while examining the space produced within linear forms.
Says Nicole:
"My work is a
stylistic exploration of form, deriving its inspiration from nature,
early childhood memories and my attraction to linear, asymmetrical
structures. My current series of work is an exploration of three
dimensional linear structures and the volume they create.
Playgrounds and roller coaster tracks are used as visual inspiration
within this series. Each piece is constructed intuitively, allowing
each piece to evolve into truly unique forms."
