Octopus's Garden

The Moorings Gallery is pleased to present a solo show by Mary Jane Lundy

Octopus's Garden

June 25, 2011- July 13, 2011

Opening Reception: Saturday, June 25, 2011; 2:00-4:00 PM

For her upcoming exhibition,  "Octopus's Garden", sculptural ceramic artist Mary Jane Lundy has created vessels that mimic beautifully painted ancient Greek forms and bring to light her expression on how she views sea life in Nova Scotia's Atlantic with that of the Mediterranean, in particular, the octopus. Mary Jane's fascination with the traits of the octopus such as it's tentacled, shape shifting body and it's ability to adapt to it's surrounding by transforming colours influenced the building and decorating of her vessels and forms blending both realism and fantasy.

Mary Jane has always been greatly influenced by the sea.

Understandably as she grew up playing on the shores of the Bay of Fundy and living in the small town of St. George , New Brunswick.

Following in her families footsteps she also held several jobs in local fish factories. Mary Jane's mediums are low fired red grogged earthenware clay and colourful underglazes with translucent over glazes.

As summer arrives and we head for the shores to dip out toes in the sea, why not drop by the Moorings Gallery in Mahone Bay, June 25- July 13 to see Mary Jane Lundy's fantastical exhibit "Octopus's Garden".
