The Rattle Bag

The Rattle Bag exhibit comprises the work of “Teresa Bergen and Friends”.  It is a wonderful combination of sculptural and functional pottery.  This exhibit includes the work of Marla Benton, Bob Campbell, Wendy Johnston, Alex McCurdy, Rachel Morouney, Wendy Shirran, Carol Smeraldo and Laura Thompson.  All of the potters thought carefully about the term “rattle bag” as they created work for this exhibit.  A little of the esoteric quality of Teresa’s work has morphed into these other pieces, I believe.  Perhaps this is most apparent in the work of Laura Thompson where one can see some quite exquisite rendering of feathers and other decorative elements in the Peace Owls! This is also apparent in Carol Smeraldo’s vases with their unusual accoutrements! Whether one wants to ponder the marble-like peacefulness of Bob Campbell’s marblesque dories  or wants to get the caffeine rush of Wendy Johnston’s expresso cups, it is imperative that one stops to contemplate these wonderful renderings in clay. The conceptual quality of Alex McCurdy’s vase and jar are but an example of the many levels that one can appreciate these ceramic jewels.

This is an exhibit that no one wants to miss.
